Return to Play: England Hockey Umpire Forums

Join England Hockey at one of their return to play officiating forums running every week over the next couple of months. You can find all the details here: https://hockeyhub.englandhockey.co.uk/

Having permission to play is fantastic news for many, however, we fully appreciate that everyone has been through an unprecedented period over the winter and whilst lots of people can’t wait to pick up a stick or whistle again, there are often understandable reasons why that may not be the case for all. We are fully aware that the vast majority of umpires, umpire developers and technical officials will need time to prepare both mentally and physically with a return to hockey. Nobody can be expected to hit the ground running in a few short weeks.

If you are hoping to get back out on the pitch in the next few months, then why not come and join us to share and discuss ideas to support your safe and fun return to hockey.

  • How do you and other umpires / umpire developers / technical officials around the country feel about returning and how can we support you to feel comfortable and ready?

  • What might be the different motivations for you and your colleagues at club and HUA level? What sort of things can we say / do before, during and after sessions to support everyone to feel safe in returning to a pitch?

  • How we change our behaviours to ensure we feel safe in the first few sessions back on the pitch? What behaviours could we see from players / coaches that may be different and how do we communicate with them so they feel safe on and off the pitch?
